Hello Fellow Archerombies,

Hope you are having a good week.

*[SQAS Archery] Jackie Fairweather*

*Condolences *

It is with great sadness this morning that we hear of the passing of Jackie
Fairweather – one of the true champions and supporters of Australian sport.

Jackie passed away on the weekend.

Jackie was a well-respected triathlete winning both World Championships and
Commonwealth games medals. She spent many years as a professional
triathlete and in 1996 she became the world triathlon champion, setting a
championship record time of 1 hour 50 minutes 52 seconds in Cleveland,
Ohio. That year she also won the World Duathlon Championship to become the
only person ever to win both world titles in the same year.

After a successful triathlon career Jackie took up marathon running,
finishing 11th in her first ever marathon in Boston. She won a bronze
medal in the event in the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester and in 2005
she won the Gold Coast Marathon.

In 2012 she was inducted into the Triathlon Australia Hall of Fame.

In recent times she worked at the Australian Institute of Sport in the High
Performance area, currently working with Canoe Kayak.

The Board and Staff of Archery Australia and I am sure all Archery
Australia members extend our deepest sympathies to Jackie’s husband, Simon
Fairweather 2000 Olympic Games Archery Gold Medalist, her family and all
those who were close to her.
